Ontario government offers app for checking on student loans

Ontario’s student-loan program has a new mobile application for smartphone-equipped scholars who want to check on the status of their loan applications or how much funding they’re getting.
The app for the Ontario Student Assistance Program was announced by Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities John Milloy, at a press conference at Carleton University Monday morning.
Milloy’s speech was met by applause from an intimate student audience, many of whom had come out in anticipation of the update.
The introduction of this app follows the recent announcement that students will now have a six month interest-free period after they graduate before they’re required to start paying back their loans.
The new app is the first of its kind for the Ontario government, and is all part of a push to make post-secondary education more affordable and accessible to all students, Milloy said.
Also at the announcement were Yasir Naqvi, the Liberal MPP for Ottawa Centre, and Carleton University president Roseann O’Reilly Runte.
